A candidate must:
be a single working mother going back to school
be enrolled in an accredited institution degree program offering an AA, BA or BS (or equivalent) degree
be a Forsyth County resident
use the funds provided for tuition or books. (The money will be sent directly to the school.)
The scholarship currently does not include international studies.
The criteria which will be used for selection of candidates include:
Financial need established by the Financial Aid office of the school based on the applicant's FAFSA.
The applicant's having a stated career direction or commitment.
The applicant's grade point average of B average (3.0 or equivalent) in prior academic work.
The applicant's working a minimum of 20 hours per week.
The applicant's employer's endorsement of the applicant (to show the employer's support of the woman going back to school)
The applicant's having satisfactorily completed at least 1 semester of schooling in the past 12 months.
The PWWS Scholarship Committee will review the application packages and recommend finalists to the PWWS Board. The Board of PWWS will make the final selection using the above criteria and the applicant's information and essay. The scholarship winners will be announced in November and July for the following semester. A scholarship winner in one semester must reapply if she wishes to be considered for a second or subsequent semester.
Each winner will be invited to attend the monthly meeting in December of Professional Women of Winston-Salem to meet and network with the members.
The application deadline is October 15th of each year.
PWWS is open to all professional women in the community and meets monthly to network and learn from speakers selected to complement the goals of the organization.
