About PWWS
Next Month's Program (5/14/08)

Hear Tina Stearns of Hospice & Palliative CareCenter for an informative and important talk titled "It's About How You Live." Tina will describe services Hospice offers their patients, families and the general community and will speak about important documents we should have in place to ensure our end of life care is what we want it to be.

Letter from our President
Cathy Howe

Anyone who has ever found themselves poised before a blank page to compose an important letter or memo or e-mail - or in this case a President's Message - has likely experienced a moment of "oh my gosh, what am I going to say, and how am I going to say it?"  That feeling is certainly not a new one for me.

Or you may find yourself at a loss to handle a problem you have never tackled before, or stymied by a lack of creativity just when you need it the most.  Some days the ideas flow fast and furiously, and the next you're dropping your bucket down an empty well.

So what can you do when the juices fail to flow?  Where do you go for your inspiration?  Fortunately, our membership provides a wellspring of knowledge and support, and I have on many occasions simply picked up the phone to call a PWWS colleague with a very simple request  - "Help!"

Invariably the process of verbalizing the situation to a sympathetic ear, and processing the feedback offered, will stir my dormant imagination back into action.  What an exciting feeling - and what a relief - when the wheels begin to turn again!

I offer my heartfelt thanks to everyone in this organization who has received those calls from me and so graciously accommodated my need for intellectual and creative stimulation and support.  And I highly recommend that you all take advantage of the very rich resource provided by your PWWS colleagues.  With PWWS on your team, your own well may be dry, but you will never lack for a satisfying drink of water!

Cathy Howe, 2008 PWWS President

For the Planners
Among Us...

It Helps to Read the Events Calendar

Be sure to check the Events Calendar (bottom of page) so you can plan the remainder of 2008. There you'll find speaker listings, short program notes, and Business Bites descriptors. A powerful set of speakers is in place to bring you a diverse set of programs for the remainder of the year. Tina Stearns from Hospice in May, Carter Leinster and Cyndi Gross in June (think finances, finances, finances), Wanda Starke from WXII News in September, Ana Tampanna, the alligator lady, in November. So much to hear, learn, chew on, and enjoy. Keep up to date by regularly reading the Events Calendar, brought to you by the Programs Committee.

October Showcase

And . . . in October--the always popular Showcase, where you get to self-promote all you want (the more, the better, we think). Tables go f----a-----s-----t, so whether you are a regular showcaser or a first timer, now is the moment to mark your calendar. Information on costs, table reservations, and logistics coming soon.

Looking for a Leader...
or Two

Programs needs a Business Bites leader for August, November, and December. Just 30 minutes of your time is all we're asking. Bring a topic of interest and enjoy the positive experience of talking with members after the primary meeting. It's fun, it's important, and it's what you do best, so how about sharing that expertise for one or all of those empty months. Email Sherry Sherrill at ssherril@infionline.net with your topic and preferred month and she'll pen you in.
